Fertility forecast. US and hormonal fertility tests
To check female fertility, fertility tests (also known as fertility forecast) are conducted. As a matter of fact, everything is quite easy. A woman have to make US of ovaries on the 5-6th day of the cycle. In other words, immediately after the periods. During US doctor measures the diameter of the ovaries, counts the amount of active, growing follicles and defines the ratio of connecting and hormonal tissues. Amount of growing follicles not less than 5, diameter 20-120 mm, ratio of tissues not less than 1:1 are viewed to be normal. According to the US results, ovarian reserve is defined and marked as “-2”, “0” and “+2”.
Ovarian reserve is “-2”, “0”, “+2”. What does it mean?
Ovarian reserve “-2” means very low, practically zero female fertility and successful pregnancy is totally impossible. Ovarian reserve “0” means medial female fertility. In other words, woman is quite able to get pregnant and bear a child to term. Ovulation reserve “+2” stands for perfect female fertility which allows woman with 100%-possibility to conceive during 1-2 cycles and then without any difficulties give birth to child.
Blood tests for hormones.
Fertility test also presupposes defining the level of FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH (Luteinizing Hormone) in the blood. Their ratio influences female ability for conception, bearing a child and birth. If FSH prevails LH – ovaries are exhausted and, as a result, fertility is low. This fertility forecast is viewed to be true-to-life for 3-5 years after which female fertility might be increased with various modern methods of ART. Results of fertility tests (fertility forecast) allow gynecologists or endocrinologists to estimate the fertility conditions of a woman.
Low fertility shouldn’t sound like a final verdict which means total impossibility to get pregnant. Childbirth might be possible but after a long course of fertility treatment which increases chances for successful pregnancy. Such kind of treatment helps nearly 95% of women to get pregnant on their own but, still, 5% have to use ART like IVF, ICSI or even surrogacy.
